In Islam, Jesus (ʿĪsā ibn Maryam) is a prophet of God, messenger, and the Messiah. He is considered to be the second-to-last prophet before the Prophet Muhammad, and is one of five great messengers of God known as the “Ul al-Azm” or Possessors of Steadfastness. Muslims believe that Jesus was sent to guide the Children of Israel with the Injīl (Gospel), and that he performed miracles such as healing the sick, raising the dead, and giving sight to the blind. The Qur’an mentions Jesus by name 25 times, and often refers to him as “Isa ibn Maryam” or “al-masih” (Messiah).
